My favorite NEW UNIVERSE book was Star Brand. At least until John Byrne took over. The first six issues were great, with Jim Shooter scripts and John Romita Jr. art. Then Shooter left Marvel and Roy Thomas scripted off a Shooter plot. I loved the title until Byrne took over. He was at the top of his game in the 80s, but Byrne couldn't stand Shooter by then and seemingly intentionally destroyed Star Brand to somehow get at Big Jim. There was even a John Byrne interview published in later NEW UNIVERSE issues where he was asked his dislikes and he said something like ''6'7'' (or however tall Shooter was) editors. That said, Byrne was instrumental in the PITT crossover, and I think the PITT was incredible!

Byrne definitely rocked the boat when he came on board. Makes you wonder why Marvel put him on the book knowing the animosity he had for Shooter, then again why did he accept the offer? Something doesn't add up.

That's a good point wondering why Marvel offered it to Byrne. Maybe back then Byrne called his own shots with what he worked on. I think he wanted Star Brand to destroy Shooter's book. Just a guess though.

The book was given to Byrne because of the animosity he had towards Jim. Many people loathed Jim and after he was fired in 87 they decided to make a mockery of his works. Even then i felt weird about all of it
